With the aim of creating a supportive and empowering environment in which all students have the opportunity to develop their abilities and achieve their academic and personal goals without exclusion, an Equal Accessibility Unit operates at the Technical University of Crete.
The Unit actively supports people with disabilities and individuals with special educational needs, promoting their equal participation in the academic and social life of the institution. Through a holistic framework of interventions and services, the Unit aims to ensure accessibility, independent study, and the full inclusion of students in an environment that respects diversity and strengthens inclusion.
Yesterday, as part of its activities, the Equal Accessibility Unit organized a screening of the film “Si può fare” (“It Can Be Done”) at the Chania Cultural Center.
As the Unit’s coordinator, Ariadni Pantidou, told us, this new initiative aims at the full inclusion of people with disabilities and neurodevelopmental differences within the academic community. The Unit already provides counseling support and works to improve infrastructure, such as ramps and specialized programs in the library. According to the timeline, the vision for universal accessibility at the institution is expected to be completed within the next three years.
